Shades of Gray by Robin Moses

So I went with something simple again this week and did a recreation of Robin Moses' Shades of Gray.  One hand has a base of Wet n Wild 424 Black with Sally Hansen 850 Pumping Iron dots made with my ever handy bobby pin and a toothpick.  The other hand is done with essence 142 grey t to be here and black dots with the same Wet n Wild 424.  Not too bad for a quick mani.

Crackle Colours

I chopped my nails short in a period of frustration over life the universe and everything  and thus was a little restricted in nail art and really wasn't feeling it this weekend so I did some tests of my crackle polishes I have collected thus far.
I began with Wet 'n' Wild 242 black and then had fun with the crackle polish.  The green didn't go on very well over the black (it took the black off) so I redid the black and waited a couple of hours for it to dry and then re-did the green crackle only to have it take the black off again - WTF?!
Whatever, I had a rainbow of colours on my nails this week brought to you by Sally Hansen Vintage Violet, Nicole by OPI Gold Texture and three dollar store nail polishes: Sungod (orange), Helios (yellow) and extraterrestrial (the naughty green).

Sally Hansen Magnetics

So the dollar store had Sally Hansen Magnetic nail polishes for 2 dollars.  I bought one of every colour they had (903 Silver Elements, 904 Kinetic Copper and 908 Graphite Gravity) to add to the one I decided to purchase at full price 906 Ionic Indigo.  I'm not sure what's up with the magnets but I had a difficult time getting the pattern to come out.  Came out beautifully on the copper colour.  See for yourselves.

pink and purple ombre

I began with a white base of wet n wild Wild Shine French White Creme and then used a cosmetic sponge and put on a dab of Rimmel 60 Seconds Vinyl Shine 808 Shocker and a dab of Revelon Top Speed Dress Code (which I bought last weekend for $2 at Dollarama) and then applied the sponge to my nails to cover over the white as best possible.  I put a bit of tape on one side of my nail as it got the brunt of the extra polish as I tried to get into the corners.  Once on the nail I also did a quick top coat while it was wet to blur the colours a bit together.

Louboutin Nails

Not exactly following the shoes I found, but I wanted to do something different.  So I painted on the bottoms of my nails.  Wet n wild Wild Shine Black Creme base with red acrylic paint on the undersides of my nails and my super sparkly Revlon Top Speed 860 Metallic.  My nails are rarely this long (I must be doing something right) so I wanted to paint the undersides, it's something I've seen done very rarely.

Black, White and Grey

Began with Sally Hansen Hard as Nails 850 Pumping Iron and then added a white french tip with wet n wild Wild Shine French White Creme.  After I added a pretty silver stripe with my Quo by Orly Platinum Glitter striping brush this step gives you a nice break between the base and french just in case it's not as perfect as you'd like.  Finally I added some black dots with wet n wild Wild Shine Black Creme using a bobby pin and a toothpick.  I still need to work on my dotting technique.  I really don't dot nail polish very much.

Robin Moses Roses

Began with wet n wild Wild Shine French White Creme and  Black Creme on my ring finger and then added the black and white acrylic paints as required.  Google Robin Moses roses and you'll find tons of her rose tutorials.  She says in one of them she does not do one stroke painting techniques.  Geez not much to write about for this one.  I still need practice with the technique, but Chris was able to tell they were roses so I must have done something right.

May The Fourth be with you

I began with Wet n Wild French White Creme on one hand and Wet n Wild Wild Shine Black Crème 424A on the other hand.  I then used my acrylic paints and a newly cut paint brush to add the stripes as shown in this tutorial by Robin Moses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7njsrLmggZI in a style I found here by lemonylene: http://lemonylene.deviantart.com/art/Star-Wars-Nails-318138678
Now I'm ready for Star Wars Day.
