Colour Block Nails

I had my nails done in Avon Golden Wine N237 for my Chinese new year nails, but no way I'd be painting chinese characters on my dominant hand so I went for something a bit simpler.  I'm fairly certain this style of nail design is called colour block nails.  So after the Crimson dried I put on the gold with my Quo by Orly Glittering Gold striping brush and finally painted in the black with Wet n Wild Wild Shine 424A Black Creme.  In hind sight I probably should have put the black on first and then gone over in gold.  The gold is a bit thicker so it was hard to get the black to touch it.  There are places where the red shows through... don't look too closely :-)

Chinese New Year: The Horse

I chose Avon Golden Wine N237 to start off my design.  In hindsight I should have used a normal red as the gold really doesn't pop out at you very much.  I am doing better than last year when I completely gave up on trying to paint Chinese characters on my nails. I did learn today that I should use the faintest of touches with the brush. Don't have the brush touch your nails, just the paint that is on the brush.  I hope it will help me create better designs.
So with my base coat laid and research into how to spell Chinese new year I have painted each character on a nail and the horse on my thumb.  I used my gold acrylic paint as I thought it would be easier than a striping brush.  Here are the results.  (Oh in case you are wondering the horse is from a kit kat bar wrapper celebrating the new year).

Pink with Silver Swirls

A facebook friend asked me what were my favourite nail polish colours.  I replied a hot pink 808 Shocker from Rimmel and my metallics (in this case 860 Metallic Top Speed by Revlon).  I used both of these in the design today.
I really liked the look of the facebook image posted by the same friend who asked about the polish colour (if you want to see her work it's at https://www.facebook.com/CrazyGirlTexas).  The image I am copying is from https://www.facebook.com/Nails2DieFor but I will also include it at the bottom of my pictures.
I cut a new paint brush today as the old one was showing a bit more wear than I liked.  I didn't do the outline in silver as my nails just seem so small when it comes to designs.  I started off with only the tips of my nails painted but my husband said I should do the other corner as well.  So here are images of the first step and the final result.

Blue striping tape design

This design by @nailsbylins was supposed to be an ombre, but when it came time to adding the light colour after fighting with the striping tape I decided I didn't want to fight with a sponge too so I did the whole nail light blue after the tape was applied (note to self: light colour goes first, dark colour goes next).
Other than the colour combo wrong the way I did it, I like the result.  My base colour is Sally Hansen Xtreme wear 420 Pacific Blue and the light blue is my dollar store nail polish from over a decade ago from Misslyn, no colour listed.
Oh, I also omitted the silver she did in the dark blue lines, however it might look good with silver in the light blue diamonds too....

blue puzzle pieces

I just saw this on facebook from The Crafty Ninja (https://www.facebook.com/TheCraftyNinja1) and I thought it was easy enough.  I started with using tape but it didn't go so well....
I must remember two things when dealing with two colours.  The first, which I thought I knew but apparently it isn't learned fully yet is start with the lighter colour and then put dark over it, not the other way around.  The light blue didn't cover very well over the dark
Secondly, don't bother with tape for certain nail designs as I'm just as good using the brush itself.  I learned this doing my aunt Linda's nails twice now and you'd think I'd learn it for my own.
Having said all that, they turned out okay, actually looking at them a second time, it is almost better they are not perfectly symmetrical as real puzzle pieces are not.
I'm glad I took a picture right away as I've already smudged it /sigh/

Aliens in Space

I bought a new awesome glitter from Sephora for Christmas with a gift card from my friend Lara.  I would never even enter this store as I really shouldn't be spending that kind of cash on nail polish.  I bought a couple of colours on the discount shelf and my prized nail polish posession:
Formula X For Sephora: Volatile
When we were in the store the reflective glitter in the bottle just blew me and my boyfriend away and I knew I had to buy it.  I might have gotten a little carried away with it on my index finger, but it's just so pretty!!
So, I began my nails with Love My Nails Black Rage 588 and then added the Sephora Volatile for all fingers and where the alien is I began with a white spot and the covered it over with Kozmic Colors flourescent green which I bought at the dollar store and added the black eyes with a toothpick.  I like him, he is cute.

Movie Commands

Over the weekend my cousin told me a story of a little girl.  When she was learning her numbers she called 11 the pause button.  This is for that little girl.
I started with Wet n Wild 415A Denim Chrome as my base and then added in the symbols with white acrylic paint.  Getting better at painting on my dominant hand, but had to touch up a bit with the blue polish after the white dried.  It's all good. :-)

2014 New Year

I haven't been doing much with my nails.  It's a strange time for me but am going to be looking for a new job full time now.  I did something simple for my nails to end this year and ring in the new year.  I began with Wet n Wild 4154 Denim Chrome and then put on some pretty sparkles also from Wet n Wild but can not find a name on it.  Any big sparkle polish will do, or a small glitter, whatever you like.  Once dried I used my Platinum Glitter 59703 striping brushes from Quo by Orly to draw in the year and add a big firework on my thumb.  The firework could have been better but I don't think I've ever done one before.  Here are the results.  As you can see I left my right hand plain with a few extra sparkles on my ring finger.
